Tablescaping Tips & Tricks

The season of al fresco dining and summer soirees is upon us and that only means one thing: it's time to lay the table. And not just any old table settings will do, we're talking fun & quirky additions, bold & bright colours, all blended seamlessly with lightweight, summer textures. The perfect recipe for a stylish summer of dining.

So, first things first, it's time to lay the base. Your primary placemat is the foundation to your whole look so think carefully about shapes, sizes and prints. We love the look of a rectangular placemat such as our Raya style, layered with a smaller circular design such as our Nariños or Classic Open Weaves. Alternatively you could keep it simple with some rustic texture on the bottom - the Clara Woven Placemats are great for this with their crochet finish and earthy tones offering up a subtle nod to the summer season.

Next up we're taking dinnerware. The ceramics are the show stealers, the heavy duty pieces that need to be both practical and beautiful. Our hand painted Liliana Collection is lovely for brining a touch of Colombian charm to the table and works well for a colourful tablescape. Alternatively if the placemats and napkin rings are your standout features, why not go simple with a plain & classic ceramic set?

The glassware: an essential for any summer setting. This is where the aperitifs will be served, the wine, the cocktails, mocktails and summer refreshments. We love the idea of mixing and matching with different colours, shapes and sizes here, as this allows for a much more unique & personalized feel to your tablescape. Plus it is an ode to the beauty of nature's imperfections, something which artisanal craft aims to celebrate. Who wants a boring old tablescape anyway?! Moving on to the tableware additions. There are lots of easy ways to bring some fun & frolic to the table, by adding unique accessories. For a stylish look, you could layer a Handwoven Fan over the plates to add even more depth to the tablescape. If colour & fun is your style, why not try decorating the table with some characterful Pom Pom Tassels or even colourful Baubles (these look great layered up in bowls as a centrepiece!) For a modern edge, try adding some graphic prints, perhaps with our Werregue Plates and of course don't forget the bread bowls. This scalloped design is our favourite. Essentially this is your opportunity to get creative, mix & match with accessories and bring a bit of your own style to the table.

The final touch is the humble napkin ring. This little gem is the cherry on top, the piece that draws them in and offers up a conversation point and we have just the rings for you. Our Palmito Collection of fruits, hummingbirds and shellfish are bestsellers for a reason. These handwoven delights are what brings the table to life, they neatly pull everything together and offer a chance for a final touch of colour co-ordination - or perhaps a bold statement piece against a more subdued look.

However you choose to decorate your table make sure it is a true reflection of you. We believe the process is just as fulfilling as the end result so take your time, do your research, go wild on pinterest and instagram and remember it's all about the fun!
